Security Guard (Commission)

Primary Purpose:

The Chapel Hill Independent School District Campus Security Officer is responsible for prevention and detection of criminal activity and safety hazards; assists in enforcing parking, student code of conduct and other district regulations; and provides overall assistance to the school campus/district community The District Security Officer is responsible for working cooperatively with the school administration, students, staff members, other district police officers, and officers from all law enforcement agencies to maintain positive campus security and a safe and secure campus environment.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Level III security license from the Texas Department of Public Safety background in law enforcement or related work experience
  • Experience as a commissioned security officer is preferred
  • Must be able to workday, evening, and night shifts. Possess the ability, patience, and appropriate attitude to impact safety, order, and discipline by interacting with students and employees
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Must hold a valid Security Officer License from the Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Five years of experience in security, including working with children on a school campus
  • Assist in the protection of students, staff, and district property
  • Respond to calls for service
  • Serve as a resource to campus administrators reporting criminal activity or offenses to the district police department
  • Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with campus administrators and problem-solve
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict situations
  • Prepare appropriate documentation of incidents as requested by the police department or campus administration
  • Provide a consistent high-visibility preference throughout the campus, ensuring the security of all exterior and interior doors
  • Inform the supervisor of all conditions which affect the security of students, staff, and district property
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective school security operations for the protection of people, data, and property
  • Demonstrated ability to deal sensitively and fairly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written/verbal) with students, parents, and all levels of district personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the confidentiality of information
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
  • Ability to work outside of traditional office hours to cover extra-curricular events
  • Must be computer literate and/or willing to attend training sessions
  • Willing to undergo a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
Equipment Used:

District vehicles, firearms, alarm systems, security equipment, and computers

Working Conditions:
  • Posture: Prolonged standing and walking. Occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of the mouse; occasional reaching
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  • Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress, up to and including acts of violence
